What is used to tuck under roof shingles when adding a metal patio cover with ridges on it? So obviously I cannot tuck the metal roofing with ridges under the roof shingles so is there a certain metal that they sale to tuck under the roof shingles and take shape of metal roofing also? If so what is it called? I seen the metal that they use for ridges on metal roofs but that has a hump on it and dont think that is what is used in my case.. Please post..

Generally the recommended solution is a two part system:

1. A "L" shaped metal transition flashing that goes under the shingles and over the metal.
2. Rubber closures that between the ribs of the metal roof, sealing it off. (These actually go down before the transition flashing.)

See:

http://www.bestbuymetals.com/how-to-install-metal-roofing.html

Click on "Tuff-Rib / Classic Rib Installation Guide"
See Page 10

It works about the same except for going under shingles instead of metal roofing at the top.

My house is brick with a metal roof, has anyone ever hung lights from their home like this?

I have never had a home with a metal roof, but I have helped a couple of friends in the country that did have metal roofs.

The first time, there were no plastic clips and since it was temporary for Christmas "Icicle" light strings, we used DUCT TAPE strips every 12 inches or so. It worked great.

Then a few years later [about 4 years ago now], at one of my local home improvement centers [I can't recall if it was Lowe's or Home Depot] I stumbled on some PLASTIC CLIPS designed to slip onto the edge of the metal roof, and they had a hook in which to suspend the string of lights. This also worked great, EXCEPT in high winds. We solved this with DUCT TAPE to secure the wire in the hook.

"Ain’t" Duct Tape great!!!!!!

Obviously I cannot get on the roof while wet, without killing myself, so my question really is, is there a tool like a brush on a long light handle out there or is there a good way to clean the roof without getting on it while wet

do not walk on a metal roof unless you know where to step. you will damage it. yes, they make power cleaning tools to use from the ground.

I just had a new cabin built and it has a metal roof, from the attic i can see outside where the metal is corrigated at the bottom of the roof (by the over hang) when i told the builder that i was worried about bugs etc getting into the attic, he said he doesnt use the foam closures, he said he puts some type of tape in there and the bugs can’t get in, i find that hard to believe because i can see light through it.

Here in N.C. when I put metal roofing on,I try to cover any ventilation hole with fiberglass screen wire, using staples to hold it in place. If I feel as though, one layer will not be enough to do the job,I will double the layer. From your question,if the places you are looking through is close to any place where water can get into my house, the builder should be held responsible for any water damage to your home. But if it’s only way out in the overhang, this is what I would do for it,because it allowes air into the attic.
