I need the roof of my home removed, replaced and metal put on. Who is local to Altoona,Pa and will finance?

Posted by admin on June 14th, 2010 and filed under metal roof | 1 Comment »

I have a 5/12 pitch on my home in need of serious repair before winter. I want to replace it with a 9/12 and would prefer shaker style metal roofing put on.

dude this is easy fix just do it your self. its really rather easy, are you planning on replaceing the whole roof as well as the rafters. if not just replace the plywood underneth if its rooting through put down your roofing paper, some people call it tar paper. and from what i understand to put a new roof up here in ohio you have to have a builders permit.

what can i use to clean and clear coat metal roof?

Posted by admin on June 6th, 2010 and filed under metal roof | 1 Comment »

my metal roof is dirty and the snow dont slide as good, what can i do?

You need to specify the material more clearly in order to get an accurate answer.

If you have a Kynar-finish, or similar roof, the best option is to power-wash it and leave it at that. Most paints and other coatings will not adhere well to Kynar finishes and will peel off over time. Most Kynar-type finishes are guaranteed for 20 years, or more depending on the substrate (steel or aluminum).

If it is an older painted metal roof, either galvanized or (very old) tin-plated, and still intact, your best bet is to again, power-wash it and then repaint it with a compatible paint. There are any number of metal roof paints designed for that purpose in any of several colors.

NOTES:

a) Older roofs may have residual lead-based paints on them – "red-lead" paint was very commonly used as a roofing paint through the 1970s – and why you see a lot of rusty-red colored roofs. If you power-wash a roof of this nature, a large amount of lead will be released into the ground where the roof drains. To the extent possible, put impervious drop-cloths at the drain areas to catch this material. If it does get into the ground remember that fruits and vegetables grown in that area may take up some of the lead – point being: get the paint tested for lead content if you think it is more than about 25 years old, or so.

b) There are any number of silicon sprays and clear roof coatings on the market, pretty much all of them temporary and pretty much all of them useless after the first winter. Don’t waste your money. If your roof has the proper pitch and the metal was installed correctly, you have no worries anyway. Further to that, some of the "slick" sprays are fairly toxic.

Seniors do you like the looks of a metal roof?

Posted by admin on May 29th, 2010 and filed under metal roof | 20 Comments »

We are in need of installing a new metal roof on The church Building. It has brownish Red brick on the outside. Tell me please what color would look the best. I like Rustic.

Definitely regarding the looks of a metal roof. Metal roofs are also very practical and longlasting. But please keep in mind that they require special attention to ‘flashing’ and waterproofing, especially on steep roof slopes [such as steeples!] and make sure the roofing contractor has experience with high slope metal roofing. Also, a dark metal roof color may require more attic insulation since it will absorb heat….

The ‘Rustic’ color next to brownish red brick sounds nice, but also remember that the deeper [darker] colors of metal roofing will fade alittle over time [as well as absorb more heat than the lighter colors].

Grey is a lighter, less heat-absorbing color and would look very nice over red brick if you add some grey detail in the outside trim of the building – eaves and or window sashings. Likewise for white metal roofing if the grout in the red brick construction is white. If the grout is beige, think beige for the metal roofing.

You can hardly go wrong: churches, like brides and babies, are inherently beautiful.

Will a metal roof decrease my home value?

Posted by admin on May 26th, 2010 and filed under metal roof | 7 Comments »

We are considering installing a pro-snap metal roof on our home (a 1924 bungalow, 900 square foot), and I’m just wondering if it will decrease the resale value of our home? Thanks! God bless!

A metal roof will increase your home resale value by 1-6%
(see http://www.metalroofing.com/v2/content/guide/costs/home-appreciation.cfm)

This is due to several reasons:
1. Metal Roofs last longer than shingles
2. Metal Roofs are more energy efficient than shingles.
3. They look great!

There are many types of metal roofing, including vertical panels as well as metal roofing that looks like slate, shakes, tile, and more. Some of these will add more value to your house than others.
