Should I leave the existing ventilation fans in when getting a new metal roof installed?

Posted by admin on March 2nd, 2010 and filed under metal roof | 4 Comments »

I am replacing my shingle roof with a metal one. The contractor that is going to install the roof recommended that I remove the existing ventilation fans. The attic gets really hot. But the contractor told told me the metal roof will act as a good insulator and the attic fans aren’t needed. Can I get someone’s professional opinion on this. I know it would be easier for him to install the roof without the fans. But I’m not sold on the idea that the roof will insulate well enough to eliminate the need for a fan.

You have to have ventilation. Metal is not an insulator, it’s a conductor. If it’s shiny it will reflect, but it won’t stay shiny. If there is insulation under the metal, then the reflective quality will be helpful, but if not, the metal will heat up and it will get hotter than hell in your attic, and make your AC work harder. The more ventilation you have, the better. Ridge vents are good.
The problem with your existing fans is that they were made to install on a shingle roof, and the flange is probably full of nail holes and roofing cement, and hard to tie in on a metal roof. They can probably be modified in various ways, (e.g. curb mounted), by a good sheetmetal mechanic to work with a metal roof, and hopefully, your roofer is a good sheetmetal mechanic. Alternatively you could put gable fans, if you have gables.

Building Equiity – Shingles or Metal Roofing?

Posted by admin on March 2nd, 2010 and filed under metal roofing | 1 Comment »

I am planning to remodel our family home. Which will build a higher amount of equity: Shingles or metal Roofing?

The choice is yours. I would use a shingle roof, because the majority of homeowners like the textured look of shingles, they also like the blend of colors within the shingles.
A shingle roof is easily patched should a tree branch of other object put a hole in your roof. A metal roof will dent, bend if hit by a heavy branch, etc. And although a shingle roof if patched will show the difference between old and new shingles, the metal roof will show it much more.
Some homes look good with a metal roof-it depends on the style. To answer your question I would think more people including a bank appraiser would say a shingled roof would have more value.

What are some of the best death metal or black metal bands out there?

Posted by admin on March 2nd, 2010 and filed under death metal | 8 Comments »

I always have enjoyed heavy metal (Metallica, Pantera) but really just started listening to and enjoying very much the death metal subgenre. I currently listen to Lamb of God, Amon Amarth, As I Lay Dying and Children of Bodom. I am eager to discover more great death metal bands and some black metal since I have never heard black metal before. If black metal is heavier than death metal than that would satisfy my appetite for more metal!!!

First of all don’t listen to Amy M or Matt, the bands they named suck. Everyone else has the right idea. I would say, get into classic black metal first because it is some of the best stuff in the world, and where almost all extreme metal is rooted from (Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost, Mercyful Fate). Also classic death metal (Death, Possessed, Athiest, Macabre) and thrash that usually isn’t mentioned in the mainstream (Sepultura, Kreator, Sodom, Sadus, Annihilator, Nuclear Assault). As for modern death metal I’d say Bloodbath, Carcass, Cryptopsy, Dying Fetus, Deicide, Entombed, Gorguts, Grave, Morbid Angel, Necrophagist, Obituary, Psycroptic, Sleep Terror, and Suffocation are essentials. I know that can get a little overwhelming, but take your time. As for black metal, Mayhem (early stuff is their best), Immortal (cheesey as hell but classic none the less), Darkthrone (I actually prefer their death metal releases but their black metal is considered the standard), Burzum, Carpathian Forest, Emperor, Drudkh, Nokturnal Mortem, Enslaved, Gehenna, Gorgoroth, Graveland, Horna, Archgoat, Beherit, Behexen, Moonsorrow, Primordial, Sigh, Summoning, Sarcofago, Falkenbach, Vreid, and Windir.

What metal to use for an outdoor bench frame?

Posted by admin on March 2nd, 2010 and filed under metal | 2 Comments »

i to buy some metal tubing for an outdoor bench im currently making but im not sure what type of metal sqecifically i should use. any suggestions would be great, it needs to be rust proof and corrosion resistant im also on a budget and live in the UK if you have any suggestions.
ive just looked at some alluminium tubing and there seems to be to thicknesses 16 swg and 10 swg. 10 swg is thicker but would the 16 swg still be strong enough as it is cheaper.

Aluminum or galvanized steel. The steel will be stronger but heavier. And it will be cheaper than aluminum.

What types of metals are in the new thermostat and the old thermostats?

Posted by admin on March 2nd, 2010 and filed under metals | 2 Comments »

we are doing a project and we are comparing the difference between the metals in the old thermostats and the new thermostats. please only answer if you know for sure. we want to know a list of the metals in the old thermostats and a list of the metals in a new thermostat. thank-you!!!

The old ones contained a mercury switch, the new ones use a thermistor and digital electronics to control things. So, it’s mercury vs silicon. The rest of the materials, such as the case, seem irrelevant.

How come metal music isn’t so popular in the Philippines?

Posted by admin on March 2nd, 2010 and filed under metal music | 19 Comments »

Not all the songs are just growls and screaming or satanic. The lyrics usually have a lot of meaning. There are some who like it but most of the filipinos I know don’t like metal music.

MUCH BETTER…..so the mainstream f@ggots rockband{kuno} lame pinoy bands wont interfere with my choice of music….MOTORHEAD/ RAMONES….

What heavy metal artist do you feel truly embodies evil?

What heavy metal or rock artist do you feel truly emanates with pure evil? That doesn’t mean they have to have magic evil powers or anything. Just someone who is what they project themselves to be and oozes with a dark black vibe.
